Medical Students at Swansea
Join the exchange
Second year medical students at Swansea University are given the opportunity to participate in a two week exchange programme with The University of The Gambia Medical School. The 12 Swansea Gambia Link committee members participate in the exchange along with 12 more students selected from Year Two. If you’d like to get involved, you can apply for the committee in your first year, or you can help out with fundraising, events and activities to earn yourself a place on the trip.
Other ways to get involved
Swansea Gambia Link run several fundraising events every year, from bake sales to winter balls. Keep an eye on our social media channels to see what we have planned. We also run an annual Auction of Promises, so why not volunteer yourself or simply come along and join in.
Educators and Healthcare Professionals
We are currently looking into ways to develop learning opportunities and research between Swansea and The Gambia. If you’re an educator, researcher or healthcare professional who would be interested in getting involved, please get in touch and email: swanseagambiasociety@gmail.com.
General Public
Auction of Promises
Swansea Gambia Link run several events each year and donations are always welcome. Our Auction of Promises is an annual event in which people donate their services, which will then be auctioned off. This includes anything from a weekend away in a holiday cottage to a class on Japanese knife sharpening. Projects
Our regular trips to The Gambia, put us in a great position to be able to transport medical equipment and education resources to The Gambia. We currently work with Legs4Africa to transport recycled prosthetic limbs to those in need. If you think our trips could facilitate your work or research, please get in touch so we can explore your project.
Donations
Swansea Gambia Link is a small organisation committed to fundraising. It’s only through the generosity of others that we are able to bring The Gambian students to the UK, completing the cycle knowledge exchange. We welcome financial donations, or raffle prizes that can be used at our annual Auction of Promises. If you’d like to make a financial donation, please click here. Corporate Social Responsibility
We are in the process of applying for official charitable status. We hope that this will allow us to connect with businesses and other organisations with corporate social responsibility.
